Something Nice Back Home - Lost Season 4 Episode 10 Review
Written by admin on May 24, 2008
Ok, it’s been almost two weeks since watching this episode so bear with me :)
After a heaty discussion on the Island at Camp Jack, Jack collapses. He says it’s because he’s dehydrated but Juliet knows better - it’s his appendix and it needs to be taken out.
The next scene shows Jack just waking up in a nice cosy bed, in what seems to be a very posh house. He wanders downstairs in nothing but a towel and stands on a toy. I thought it was obvious at that moment that this was a flash forward and that the toy belongs to Aaron. When Jack goes to his mystery woman in the shower for a moment I thought it was actually Juliet because I thought it sounded like her, but then we see Kate come out of the shower so that theory went out the window (thank god! ;) )
So anyway, Jack and Kate are living in this happy little family world with Aaron and everything seems to be hunky dory for them. Awwww.
Back to the Island and we see Sawyer, Miles, Claire and Aaron wandering through the jungle on their way back to Camp Jack, when Miles stops for a moment and hears voices. He then perks up and asks “Who’s Danielle and Karl?”. Miles begins to dig up some of the mud beneath him and lo and behold, Danielle and Karl are buried there. (I really thought Danielle would have lived *sigh*).
At Camp Jack, Juliet is talking to him about the procedure she’ll need to do to remove his appendix, and Jack tells her he wants to be awake when she does it so she can tell him what to do. Oh, and he also wants Kate there to hold the mirror in place for him!
Juliet then gives instructions to Sun about what instruments to pick up at the medical station, but Sun is unsure as to what each thing is, so Daniel offers to go with them as he knows a thing or two about surgical instruments.
Back to Jacks flash forward and we see him working at what looks like a very posh hospital. He is in the reception area and is spooked as he sees someone who looks like his dead father, Christian Shepherd. He gets a message from one of his co-workers about Hurley, who apparantly isn’t taking his medication.
Jack goes to see Hurley to try and pursuade him to take his meds, but all Hurley wanted to talk about was Charlie. Apparantly he speaks with Charlie on many occasion, and just so happens that Charlie told him Jack would be coming to make a visit. Hurley told Jack that Charlie passed on a message to him: that he would be visited by someone soon and that he isn’t supposed to raise him. Jack, obviously disturbed by this, decides to leave and insists to Hurley to take his medication.
Back on the Island we see Sawyer and co. still walking through the jungle when they are interupted by Frank who warns them to hide cause Keamy and co. are on their way on a killing mission!
Flash forward now sees Jack turning up at home in the middle of the night and he wakes up Kate to ask her to marry him! Obviously Kate says yes, and they’re still living their hunky dory happy family life :)
Back to island we see Sun and co. return from the medical station with whats need for Jacks op. Jin stops Charlotte and speaks to her in Korean. She’s a little confused and tells him she doesn’t understand. Jin carries on speaking to her in Korean and tells her he saw her smile when he and Sun were talking about her at the station, meaning she understood what they were talking about. Charlotte gives in and starts speaking Korean to Jin and asks him what he wants. All Jin wants is for Sun to be on the next helicopter away from the Island.
Juliet begins her operation on Jack while Jack is still awake. During the operation he starts to feel the pain and Juliet can’t operate on him when he’s like that so she tells Bernard to knock him out. Jack tried not to let that happen but it’s a bit difficult when you’ve got sharp operating tools near your stomach, and in alot of pain ;) Kate was getting upset seeing Jack like that, and Juliet shouted at her to get out of the room. Bernard finally manages to knock him out and Juliet is able to operate on him successfully.
Back to Jacks flash forward and we see him in his office working on some paper work, when he hears the smoke alarm beeping outside near reception. He goes to check it out and sees his father yet again, as clear as day, and he shouts “Jack!” to him. He turns away for a second then when he looks back his dad is gone. One of his co-workers asks if he’s ok, and Jack asks her to write him a prescription as he’s been feeling stressed lately. She agrees but tells him getting engaged isn’t supposed to be stressful.
He goes home to Kate and she is on the phone with someone. She quickly comes off it to speak to Jack. Jack seems to be suspicious of who she is on the phone to, but she says it’s just one of the mums from Aaron’s playgroup. When Kate goes to bed Jack helps himself to a bottle of beer. Seems to be the start of Jacks beer and prescription drug problem! Oh dear!
Back on the Island, Sawyer and co. are asleep in the jungle when Claire wakes up to find Aaron isn’t there with her. Before she has chance to panic she looks ahead and sees Aaron is safe… in the arms of Christian Shepherd! (Who, incase anyone has forgotten, is also Claire’s father!). How very strange!
Kate goes to see Jack after his op but he appears to be still asleep. Juliet speaks with Kate and tells her all about the kiss she and Jack shared, but told her Jack only kissed her to try and prove to himself that he didn’t love someone else (ie. Kate!). Kate was smitten to hear this and thanked Juliet. When Kate left Juliet tells Jack that she knows he’s awake - ooo-er he heard the whole converstation! What does that mean for Jack and Juliet?! Not much I reckon…
Anyway, back to Jacks flash forward and he is at home waiting for Kate to get back. He’s been drinking and probably taken a few prescription drugs. When Kate gets home he asks her where she’s been, but she tells him it doesn’t matter. He also questioned her about the phone call she quickly cut off the other day. She tells him she has to trust him, but he doesn’t seem to let the matter drop! Kate then tells him she’s been doing something for “him”… Jack looked clueless, so she said “Sawyer”. Apparantly Kate had made a promise to him on the Island. Jack then turns around and says that Sawyer made his decision to stay, and that he (Jack) is the one who left the Island.
So, um, wait a minute. The people on the Island actually had a choice if they stayed or not?! Now this is just getting weirder and weirder!
Anyway… Kate tells Jack she can’t have him around her son to which Jack was just bemused. “Your son?! You’re not even related to him!”. (So that solves everyones question that it is Claire’s Aaron and not the love-child of Kate and Sawyer (thank god!) ).
That line suggests to me that Jack does know that he and Claire are half-brother and sister, otherwise he would’ve said something like “he’s not your son” etc.
Back to Island and we see Sawyer waking up to see Claire and Aaron gone. Sawyer asks Miles where they are and Miles says he didn’t know, and that she just got up and wandered off in the middle of the night with someone she called “dad”. In that moment, they hear Aaron crying and Sawyer follows the sounds to find Aaron lying at the bottom of a tree with no Claire in sight!
Eeeek!

Judging by the tone of this article, you must be a Jater.

Lee, I am neither a Jater or a Skater. I couldn’t care less who Kate ends up with.
I’m merely releived that Kates son didn’t turn out to be Sawyers because that would’ve been a poor storyline.
