Cabin Fever

The title of this episode got me excited to see it as we all know it must have something to do with Jacob’s cabin, and Jacob himself. I was anticipating the reveal of Jacob all through this episode, and slightly dissapointed we didn’t get to see him pyhsically. But the episode itself was great!

The episode starts off somewhere in the fifties (?) and we see a young girl getting ready to go out. Her mother isn’t impressed and tries to stop her as her daughter is going out to see her new boyfriend. In the events of getting away from her mother the girl is knocked down by a car. When she’s in the hospital she quickly tells one of the nurses that she’s pregnant.

They must perform an emergency birth because her baby is born in the hospital shortly after. When they take her baby to another room, the young girl tells them that his name is… John.

On the Island John appears to wake up in the jungle to the sound of someone chopping wood. He goes to investigate and sees Horace, the guy who brought Ben and his father to the Island. Horace appears to be on some sort of loop and tells John that to find Jacob, he must find him.

John then really does wake up in the jungle in a way that must make Ben know he was having a dream, for Ben says “I used to have dreams”.

John now has a plan: to find the dead corpse of Horace.

Back to the flash back, and we see Emily (the young girl) ready to take baby John home, until she realises she can’t do it and runs away. Emily’s mother is in the room and notices a man looking through the door as if he knows her. This man is Richard Alpert appearing the same age he is now, and what he was when he first met a young Ben. I was happy to see the return of Richard as I think his character is very important to the show, especially the significance in his lack-of ageing.

Back on the Island Locke and co. are at the pit where all the dead bodies of the Dharma Initiative where thrown. Locke goes through each body looking at their name tags until he comes to Horace. He looks inside Horace’s pocket and finds drawings of the cabin and its location.

Keamy and co. arrive back on the freighter seemingly in fowl moods. Keamy immediately goes to see Michael to interrogate him about why he gave his name to Ben. Keamy tries to kill Michael with his gun, but his gun doesn’t seem to work. Perhaps the Island still won’t let Michael die?

Back to the flash back and we see now a young Locke, perhaps the age of 10? He is at home with his persumably foster parents and is visited by Richard Alpert. Richard sees a drawing on the wall what Locke drew - it was a drawing of what appeared to be the Smoke Monster! Richard shows some items to Locke and asks him which item belongs to him. Amongst these items was a comic about Mysterious Islands, a Knife, some powder-like substance (like what appeared around Jacobs cabin). Locke was drawn to the Knife, but this seemed to anger Richard as this item wasn’t what belonged to Locke, and he upped and left.

On the freighter Keamy takes a key from the Captain to open a box that has a secondary protocol in it should anything go wrong with the first plan. Apparantly it holds information about the only place Ben can go to now to save the Island.

Back to the flash back and Locke is now about 18 years old. He is speaking with his teacher who tells him about Mittelos Bioscience, a company who are very interested in Locke, and who’s founder is… Richard Alpert. (Although we already knew this from the Juliet episode when he “interviews” her for a position). Locke says he isn’t interested because he likes sports and man stuff etc. etc. Way to be a man Locke! ;)

Back on the freighter we see Keamy attaching something suspicious to his arm. Whatever it is, I wouldn’t like to be around that guy right now!

The captain arranges for Sayid and Desmond to take the small boat back to the Island to start bringing in the Losties, but Desmond decides to stay on the freighter.

On the Island, Locke, Ben and Hurley have just stumbled accross Jacob’s Cabin! Eeeek! :D

Back to Lockes flash back and we see Locke in hospital trying to do physio with his legs. This is obviously shortly after his dad pushed him out the window causing Locke to be paralysed from the waist down. Nice dad ya got there! ;)

At the hospital, someone appears to push Locke in his wheel chair back to his ward, and it’s revealed to be Matthew Abaddon - the man who looked to be Naomi’s boss, and the guy who went to visit Hurley after the Oceanic Six were rescued! Abaddon tells Locke he should go on a Walkabout in Australia to “find himself”.

A whole load of questions came from just his appearance which I will save for another post ;)

On the freighter we see Keamy and co. getting ready to get in the helicopter to head back to the Island. One of the guys speaks to the doctor and tells him that he received a weird SOS from the Island saying the doctors body had been washed up on shore with a cut in his throat. Obviously the doctor didn’t take this seriously, because obviously he is still alive.

Frank refuses to take Keamy and co. back to the Island and says he only agreed to take scientists, not men on a killing mission! Keamy gets agitated and threatens to kill Frank, but Frank reminds him that he’s the only one who knows how to fly a helicopter. To show Keamy is serious, he kills the doctor instead, by putting a knife to his throat!! (Again, some stuff here that needs a post of its own!)

The captain appears with a gun and threatens to shoot Keamy, but Keamy shows him the suspiscious thing on his arm and tells him he doesn’t want to do that. The captain asked what everyone else was wondering: “What’s the on his arm?!”. The captain looked away for a second though and with that Keamy shot him. :(

Frank wastes no more time and agrees to take them. He wraps up his phone in something which he then throws out to camp Jack when he flys over them. The phone shows where the helicopter is headed and Jack thinks they want them to follow it.

Back to Locke and Jacobs cabin! (The bit I was waiting for the whole episode!). Ben and Hurley remain outside while Locke goes in. When he enters he sees someone sitting in Jacobs chair, and immediately asks if he’s Jacob. The man in the chair says he isn’t, but can speak on behalf of Jacob. The man then reveals himself, and surprise surprise, it’s Christian Shepherd (didn’t see that one coming! ;) ).

In the corner of the room Locke hears movement and he takes a proper look and sees Claire sitting in the corner, looking suspiciously happy. Locke asks her where Aaron is, but Christian says he’s where he belongs now. He also tells Locke that it’s best if he didn’t mention seeing Claire there. (!!).

Anyway, Locke hasn’t got time to stand around asking 101 questions, and finally asks Christian what he should do next.

When Locke has finished in Jacobs cabin he goes outside to greet Ben and Hurley and tells them what Jacob told him to do. Locke must move the Island!!

Move the Island?!
