Is Locke Really Dead?
Written by admin on June 2, 2008
In Season Four it is revealed that Locke is more significant and special than we first thought.
When he is only as little as a week old he is visited by Richard Alpert of the Others/Hostiles in hospital. We don’t see any interaction with the two, but the presence of Richard is alone more than just a coincidence (Do not mistake coincidence for fate).
When John is a young boy, perhaps eight or nine years old, Richard Alpert visits him again. Richard notices a picture that John drew which looks very much like the smoke monster. Of course, John being so young at the time and having no experience of the Island makes this drawing much more powerful and special.
Richard tests John as Richard wants to recruit John for a “special school” by giving him a number of items and asks John to pick which item belongs to him. Amongst these items were a book called The Book of Laws, a comic book about Mysterious Islands, and a knife. Locke seemed to be drawn to many of these but the item he picked up was the knife.
Richard seemed upset by this and it seemed the Locke had failed the test, but perhaps he’d passed? Nevertheless, Richard left and told John’s foster parent that he’d made a mistake.
When John was about 18 years old his teacher approached him about a science company called Mittelos Bioscience (the “company” Richard Alpert works for) who said they were interested in recruiting John. John at that age was offended by this offer as he wants to be seen as more than just a science-boy, so he refuses to go.
After being conned by his father for one of his kidneys, and been thrown out of a window by the same man and left paralysed, Locke is visited in Hospital by Matthew Abaddon (who we thought worked for Charles Widmore) who tells Locke he needs to go on a walkabout to find himself.
We all know what this walkabout led to.
When Locke landed on the Island he was instantly healed of his paralysis and could walk again.
His lack-of-kidney proved to be a life saver as the bullet Ben shot him with went straight through without harming him.
He was able to communicate with Jacob who, it appears, will only communicate with “special” people.
He became the leader of the Others when Ben moved the Island and it seemed that Richard Alpert finally got what he wanted.
So, after all the things that have led us to believe that John Locke is special and has a special connection with the Island and Jacob… is he really dead?!
We all know that the Island won’t let certain people die, so how is it that Locke has ended up dead? This is where the theories and questions begin.
I have a feeling that with the Oceanic Six trying to get back to the Island, when Locke goes with them he will be resurrected, just like Christian Shepherd. Whether or not he will only appear to a few people like Christian will remain to be seen, but I think that’s how it will pan out.
I don’t think Locke is dead - he just can’t be!

I have another theory for you…what is Jeremy Bentham is a clone of Locke? The Vault in the Orchid station was used for time travel, but we saw from the original Orientation film that a rabbit duplicated itself when they were attempting to send it forward in time. Perhaps Locke screwed up trying to time travel after Ben moved the island (which wouldn’t be a big surprise given his track record), and accidentally created his clone or Bad Twin.
I know this won’t be a popular notion, but hey, we’ve seen that anything is possible on Lost. Besides, it struck me as odd that the element of cloning was introduced in the Orientation film yet was not featured this season or in the finale. It was purposeful and meaningful, as most of those videos tend to be.

That’s a good theory. There was a book featured in Lost once called Bad Twin wasn’t there, and I know alot of people thought it would play a part at the time - even theories about Jacob being Johns twin was brought up.
So I think you could be going somewhere with this definately.
Hurry up Season 5! lol

Most likely he will come back and be resurrected, there’s no point in bringing a corpse to the island, if anything i hope his role in season 5 is not like Christian’s extreme randomness, i want the classic, confused, stubborn Locke that we all love!!!
