There’s No Place Like Home (Part Two) - Lost Season 4 Episode 13 Review
Written by admin on June 7, 2008As the last episode of Season Four aired I couldn’t help feeling a little bit sad because now we have to wait until next year to find out what happens next - but boy, did this Finale lift up my spirits.
I didn’t think they’d be able top last seasons Finale of revealing Jack & Kate off the Island and introducing the Flash Forwards - but they did, and they did it with style!
The start of this episode begins where the Season 3 finale left off - with Jack & Kate at the airport. At the end of Season 3 we see Kate drive off in her car with Jack shouting “We have to go back, we have to go back!” and we didn’t have a clue what happened next… that is, until now!
Kate suddenly stops in her car and reverses a little to get out and vent her anger at Jack. She looked very upset about the newspaper clipping Jack showed her and amidst her rage she said the name of the person who was inside the coffin: somebody called Jeremy Bentham. I think this proves that the newspaper clipping that everyone analysed at the end of last season does actually mean something and wasn’t just a prop.

On the Island Jack and Sawyer find Hurley and are relieved he his alive. Hurley shows them the Orchid, where the Man of Science (Jack) and Man of Faith (Locke) are reunited.
On the freighter Desmond, Jin, and Michael are studying the bomb that has been left, and are trying to work out a way of dismantling it without it going off. Good luck with that!
Keamy and co. have Ben tied up and have reached the helicopter when Kate appears out of nowhere apparantly on the run from the Others. Keamy drags her to the floor next to Ben while his team listen out for any rustles coming through the jungle. Wham! One of his men gets taken out by one of the Others and a huge battle begins.

Ben and Kate run to escape whilst Keamy heads into the jungle to see if he can find the Others: but is stopped by the king of torture himself, Sayid! They have a brief fight and it looks like Keamy has the upperhand - until he gets shot in the back by Richard Alpert!
Richard tells Ben that their agreement with Kate and Sayid was that they’d let them go home if they helped him. Ben agrees and tells them they’re free to go to the helicopter… just like that?!
In the Flash Forward Hurley gets a visitor at the Mental Hospital from Taller Ghost Waaaaaaalt! (Ahem!). Walt tells Hurley he had a visit from Jeremy Bentham (to which Hurley gets uneasy about) and tells him he doesn’t understand why they’re all lieing. Hurley tells Walt it’s to protect the people that got left behind.

At the Orchid Locke is trying to pursuade Jack to stay on the Island and tells him it’s a place where mircales happen. Jack, being the man of science and all, disagreed with Locke and told him he is going to leave the Island. Locke, seeing that Jack is stubborn about it, tells Jack that he will need to lie when he gets off to save the Island. Jack wasn’t having any of it and midst their debate they were interupted by a now free Ben.
Ben and Locke wander off down the Orchid in an elevator, not before Locke reminds Jack that he will need to lie!
On the frieghter Michael has found a canister of nitrogen which he says can be used to freeze the bomb, but it’ll only work for a short while, and they only have one canister! Ooops!
Back on the Island Daniel has returned with the little sail boat and tells Miles and Charlotte that they need to be on the next ride to the frieghter. Miles says he is staying on the Island but Charlotte says she’ll go. When Daniel goes off to get everyone ready Miles questions Charlotte about wanting to leave and asks her why she’d want to leave after waiting and trying so long to get back there. Get back?! Another mystery rears it’s head. Charlotte, seemingly woken up by Miles statement, changes her mind and decides to stay.

At the Orchid station Locke has lots of questions for Ben about what the station is used for, but Ben seemingly too busy concentrating on doing something, gives Locke an orientation video to watch which should answer some of his questions. The video features Dr Edgar Halliwax (aka Dr. Marvin Candle / Dr. Mark Wickmund as he called himselves in previous films). Dr Edgar Halliwax begins to explain what the vault is used for and warns never to put anything metal in there (which is what Ben was doing!). Before Locke could finish watching it the video started to rewind itself, but the jist of it is this: the vault is used for time travelling bunnies ;)

Ben and Locke notice the elevator going back up to the Island and realise that someone is up there waiting to come down… but who is it?
Back at the helicopter Jack, Sawyer and Hurley are reunited with Kate, Sayid and Frank and they all head off to the “safe” haven that is the frieghter… (noooo!)
At the Orchid the mystery guest is revealed - it’s Keamy! Apparantly he was wearing a bullet proof vest so the bullets Richard shot him with earlier had no effect. Ben and Locke are hiding when Keamy arrives and he tries to encourage them to show themselves by revealing just what that little mechanism on his arm is: it’s only a heart monitor that is connected to the bomb on the frieghter and if he dies the frieghter blows up! (But we already knew that, didn’t we? ;) ).

Keamy taunts Ben by talking about Alex’s death and Ben can’t hold his anger in much longer and comes out of his hiding place and stabs Keamy! Luckily Keamy is still conscious at this point…
On the helicopter Frank notices they’re running out of fuel and on inspecting the helicopter, Sayid notices a hole where a bullet went through in the earlier scuffle, and gas was leaking out of it. Frank tells everyone to throw things out of the helicopter that are weighing it down.
Sawyer whispers something to Kate and then he jumps out of the helicopter into the water! Wowza! This action, I feel, was to save Hurley from having to jump out.

In the flash forward, Sayid is outside Hurley’s Mental Hospital and shoots someone in a car who is keeping an eye on Hurley (at 8.15pm). Sayid breaks into the hospital and goes to Hurleys room and tells him that Jeremy Bentham is now dead and that they need to go to somewhere safe.
Hurley asks Sayid why he’s calling him Jeremy Bentham when his name is… before Hurley could finish Sayid tells him they’re being watched. Hurley agrees to go with Sayid, but not before making his final move on a chess game he was playing, with Mr. Eko?! (In his head).
Back at the Orchid Locke is trying to keep Keamy alive but it’s no good, Keamy loses consciousness and dies… which in turn activates the bomb. Luckily Michaels nitrogen idea was working a treat, but it won’t last for long!
Desmond goes up deck to warn everyone and tells them to get in the water, but then he notices the helicopter coming in to land. Desmond tries to warn them to go away because of the bomb, but Frank says they can’t go anywhere else without fuel so they make a quick stop to refill.

Amidst the rush Kate convinces Sun to get on the helicopter while she goes to get Jin, but unfortunately Jack holds her back and tells her to get on the helicopter as well. Kate tells him that they need to get Jin, but he doesn’t listen.
Michael, now realising there isn’t much nitrogen left, tells Jin to go updeck and be with his wife and that he can handle it from here. Jin is very grateful and rushes up deck to be with Sun but when he gets there he sees the helicopter in the air with Sun on it.
Sun frantically tells Frank to go back to pick up Jin but he says there isn’t time!
Michael, now next to none nitrogen, starts to hear the whispers that are usually heard in the jungle. He then is greeted by Christian Shepherd, who tells Michael he can go now. And with that, the bomb blew up!
Sun, watching the blast, started screaming and shouting for Jin which in my opinion, was the most heart-wrenching moment on LOST so far. The other passengers on the helicopter (Desmond, Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Sayid) tried to calm her down and comfort her.

In the flash forward Sun is in London and approaches Charles Widmore coming out of a building. Sun starts the conversation about how her father runs Paik Industries and apparantly he and Charles Widmore are business associates! Sun quickly changes the topic and tells Charles they have similar interests (ie. Finding the Island) and tells him to call her when he’s ready to discuss it.
On the Island Juliette is looking out to sea whe she sees Sawyer coming in from his little swim. Juliette is drinking Rum and Sawyer asks her if she’s celebrating, to which she replies she’s not as she looks in the direction of the frieghter that just blew up. Sawyer looked at it too and looked very down hearted.
At the Orchid, after successfully blowing up the vault with metal objects, Ben goes to get a coat and tells Ben he needs it cause he’s going somewhere cold. Locke told Ben he was going with him to which Ben said whoever moves the Island cannot come back, and he told Locke that his people where waiting for him outside to take over as leader.
Ben said his goodbyes to Locke and headed through a tunnel that was created when he blew up the vault, and headed down a ladder to a cold room with a wheel-type device. Ben hurt his arm on the way down which is suspiciously similar to the injury he had when we saw him awake in Tunisia (seems to me he arrived there after turning this wheel! Don’t ask me how though ;) ).
Ben, now seemingly upset by the idea that he may never return to the Island, starts turning the wheel.

Everyone on the Island, and everyone in the helicopter, and Daniel and the other losties in the boat experienced a bright light and very weird noise. It sounded very much like when Desmond turned the failsafe key in the Hatch (remember the Hatch?!). After a few seconds of this light and noise it stopped: and the Island dissappeared!

Everyone in the helicopter was panic stricken as they were running out of gas and they no longer had anywhere to land! Sayid threw out a life boat and the helicopter was forced to “land” in the water. Everyone seemed to be ok apart from Desmond who was unconcious! Luckily Jack gave him the kiss of life and all was well. Well… sortof ;)
Hurley made a comment about how Locke had moved the Island, but Jack still being Jack didn’t believe he’d moved the Island. How do you explain the Island being there one minute, then gone the next then Jack?
In the flash forward Kate appeared to wake in the middle of the night and she received a phone call. The person on the other end didn’t make much sense, but then Kate heard a noise coming from outside her room. She quickly picked up a hidden gun from her wardrobe and went to Aaron’s room and to her shock, saw Claire tending to Aaron! Claire warned Kate not to bring Aaron back to the Island - and with that Kate appeared to wake up again (it was all a dream… or was it?!).
Out at sea Jack and co. see a light coming from another boat (which eerily was similar to the season one finale where the Others took Walt) and they were all shouting so the boat would come and rescue them. Jack then realised that Locke was right: they will have to lie about what happened to them.
When they arrived near the boat Desmond heard one of the men on the boat calling for Miss Widmore, and when Desmond realised Penny was on the boat a very beautiful reunion happened between the two. Ahhh Penny rescued them all! What would her father say? ;)

A week later they arrive near Membata where they were supposdly stranded for the past 108 days, and after saying goodbye to Desmond, Penny and Frank - the Oceanic Six arrived on a little boat to a populated area and they were finally rescued!
Back to the flash forward and we see Jack in the drunken drugaholic state he was in in last seasons season finale, and he breaks into the funeral parlour where Jeremy Bentham’s body is. He opens the coffin and we’re all like “show us who’s in there!”, then Ben comes out of the darkness and asks Jack if Jeremy went to see him. Jack explains that he went to see him and Kate and that Jeremy told him that bad things happened on the Island after they left and that it’s all Jacks fault.
Ben tells Jack that if he wants to go back to the Island, they all have to go together - all of Oceanic Six! (Does that include Desmond and Frank? hmm). Jack tells Ben that it’ll be difficult to get everyone to go but Ben says he has a few ideas.
Jack goes to leave the parlour when Ben tells him he’ll have to bring him too - the man in the coffin. The wait was finally over: the camera was spanning over to who is in the coffin and… it’s LOCKE! (At this point I had a feeling it’d be Locke but it was still a shocker!).

So, Jeremy Bentham is Locke? How/Why did he die? The Island doesn’t let certain people die so why did it let Locke die when he seems to be the only one with a strong connection with the Island? And will the Oceanic Six reunite to go back to the Island and save everyone on there? Soooo many questions and such a long wait for next season! Arggh!
