Solitary - Lost Season 1 Episode 9 Review
Written by admin on October 12, 2008Note: this is a look back at earlier episodes to give a general review and to write about the mysteries as they unfold.
Character Episode: Sayid
Quick Recap On Flashback:
Sayid is seen interrogating a man to tell him the truth about a terrorist attack. Afterwards, after seeing the way Sayid works, his commanding officer tells him they’re going to promote him. In the midst of conversation, Sayid notices a woman being brought to the detention facility.

Later, we see Sayid start an interrogation on this woman but she says something to Sayid and makes him realise that he knows her from his childhood. Her name is Nadia, and apparantly when they were children she used to push him in the mud because he used to ignore her. Despite being moved by this revelation, Sayid continues to interrogate her.
A few weeks later Sayid brings food to where Nadia is being held and tells her if she implicates the others in the attack she may be able to walk free. Nadia doesn’t give in, however, and a short while later Sayid is ordered to execute her.

He gives her a black bag to put over her head and escorts her to where she will be executed, but when they’re alone he gives her the opportunity to leave. She tries to pursuade him to go with her but he explains that if he did, they will kill his family. Before Nadia has a chance to leave they are interupted by his commanding officer and Sayid is forced to shoot him. Sayid then shoots himself in the leg so that the story of Nadia escaping will be more believable.

Before Nadia escapes she gives Sayid a photograph with the words “You will find me in the next life, if not in this one” written in Arabic on the back.
Quick Recap On Island:
Sayid is sitting on the beach looking at the photo’s of Nadia, when he notices a piece of electrical cable sticking out of the sand. He picks it up and notices it leads into the jungle. He grabs it and follows it and it leads to a trap. Sayid is hung upside down by his leg, and a short while later someone walks over to him and cuts him down, knocking him out in the process.

When Sayid wakes up he is tied to a bed and is suffering with distorted hearing. He can hear someone asking about Alex and professes to have no clue what they’re talking about. The person continues to shock Sayid with an electric current and demands to know where Alex is.
He explains that he is a survivor of a plane crash and that he picked up a distress signal of a French woman that has been played on a loop for 16 years. The person walks out of the shadows and asks “Has it really been that long?”. The person is the French woman!*

At the caves, Locke arrives with Ethan who have been out hunting for food. They found some luggage to which Hurley volunteers to look through. As he is looking through one of the bags he has a bemused look on his face like he has found something exciting!
The next morning Sayid finds himself still tied up to the bed and notices a jacket with the name Rousseau on it. He reads it out and the French woman asks how he knows her name. They have a conversation which leads to her asking about Nadia. Sayid tells her Nadia is dead and Rousseau seems saddened by this revelation.

Rousseau shows Sayid a music box that was given to her by her husband Robert. He was part of her science team and she explains that they all got sick and died on the island. She is upset as the music box is broken, and explains that it brought her much comfort for the first few years that she was on the island. Sayid offers to fix it. She seems to ignore Sayids offer and gets out a needle to which she uses to sedate him.
At the caves, Charlie tells Jack and co. that Hurley is worked up about something and that he wants them to go and see. When they arrive Hurley announces that he has built a golf course! He figured with the situation that they’re in that they need a little fun to distract them from monsters, and polar bears. (You didn’t hear about the polar bear?!).

When Sayid wakes up from the sedative he finds himself sat up in a chair. Rousseau apologises and explains it was the only safe way to move him. She wants him to fix her music box for her. Sayid agrees and asks her what her first name is, to which she says “Danielle”. Danielle explains that there are others on the island, but she has never seen them, only heard them. “They whisper” she says. Sayid thinks she’s been alone for too long.
At the beach word gets out about the golf course, and Boone, Shannon and Kate go to check it out. It isn’t long before alot of the survivors are there to watch Charlie and Jack take their shots.

Back at Danielle’s place, Sayid has fixed the music box and she seems very grateful. They are then interupted by a loud noise outside and Danielle takes a gun and goes to investigate. Sayid notices another gun and grabs it and follows her.
Sayid finds Danielle and tells her to put the gun down. She doesn’t listen and aims her gun at him, just as he aims his gun at her. Sayid realises that Danielle isn’t going to back down and pulls the trigger, only to find the gun doesn’t actually work. She explains that Robert didn’t notice it either when she shot him. Sayid realises that Danielle killed her husband and team, and she tells him she did it because they were sick.

Sayid tells Danielle that he isn’t sick and she seems sad as she says “I know”. She doesn’t want to let Sayid go because she has been on her own for such a long time, but she realises she has to. When she walks away Sayid asks her who Alex is and she tells him she was her child.
Later, when Sayid is walking through the jungle he begins to hear the whispers!
