Note: this is a look back at earlier episodes to give a general review and to write about the mysteries as they unfold.

Character Episode: Boone and Shannon

Quick Recap On Flashback:
Boone is at a posh country club and has just finished playing a game of tennis. He receives a phone call on his mobile from Shannon who asks him for help. In the middle of the conversation Boone can hear Shannon shouting at someone to stay away from her. Boone says he’ll come help and asks her where she is. She tells him she’s in Australia.

When Boone arrives in Australia he goes to Shannon’s place and everything seems fines with her. She is just about to go out with her boyfriend and tells Boone to come and see her tommorrow. Boone is annoyed that he’s flown out all the way to Australia when it seems she doesn’t need any help at all - until Shannon discreetly shows Boone a bruise on her head.

Boone goes to a police station to try and get someone to have a word with Shannon’s boyfriend, but the police man isn’t very helpful. Whilst in the police station a guy starts shouting off at one of the police man who turns out to be Sawyer.

After leaving the police station Boone goes to see Shannon’s boyfriend and writes him a cheque to stay away from her. Her boyfriend doesn’t seem interested at first until he asks for more money.

Later, Boone goes to see Shannon but finds her boyfriend is still there. It takes a few seconds for Boone to realise that this was all just a setup to get money from him. Apparantly when Shannon’s father died Boone’s mother took all the money and didn’t give any to Shannon, so this is Shannon’s way of getting back what she’s owed. A fight breaks out with Boone and Shannon’s boyfriend and when Shannon manages to stop them, Boone leaves.

Later that night Shannon arrives at Boone’s hotel room and tells him that her boyfriend has left her and has taken all the money. Shannon is slightly drunk but tells Boone that she knows that he’s always been in love with her and she tries it on with him. It doesn’t take much for Boone to give in and they end up sleeping together. When they’ve finished Shannon tells Boone that when they go back things should go back to how they were.

Quick Recap On Island:
Boone is watching Shannon and Sayid talking on the beach. When Sayid walks away from her Boone gives him a warning to stay away from her.

In the jungle, Jack watches Kate as she picks seeds from the bushes. Kate knows that he’s there and she takes him to see a garden that Sun has created in the middle of the jungle.

Locke and Boone are now at the metal object they found, which will be called The Hatch, and are trying to figure out a way of opening it. Boone tells Locke that he needs to tell Shannon what he’s doing because she keeps asking questions and he can’t keep lying to her. Locke seems dissapointed in Boone for wanting to tell Shannon and knocks him out!

When Boone comes to he finds himself tied up and Locke puts some home-made stuff on the back of his head to help his wound. Boone thinks Locke is crazy for doing it and tells him he won’t tell Shannon about The Hatch, but Locke is having none of it. He throws a knife at Boone which lands in front of him and tells him with the right motivation he can let himself free. Locke then proceeds to leave Boone on his own.

At Sun’s garden, Kate is telling her a story and when she says something funny Sun gives a smile and Kate realises that Sun can understand her. Sun tells her that she doesn’t want anyone to know that she can speak English, especially not Jin.

In the jungle Boone can hear Shannon screaming and she tells him Locke has tied her up too. It seems that that is enough motivation for Boone to set himself free as he manages to reach the knife and cut through the rope. He runs to Shannon and unties her and then they are chased by the Smoke Monster. They hide in the trees until they’re safe to go.

When they’re hiking back to the beach Shannon has a go at Boone for annoying Locke. He tells her that they found a hatch and the reason Locke tied them both up was because he wanted to tell her about it.

The Smoke Monster starts chasing them again and it grabs hold of Shannon and kills her. Boone is distraught.

When Boone makes it back the beach he attacks Locke and tells him that Shannon is dead. Locke explains to Boone that the stuff that he put on the back of his head made him hallucinate and that Shannon isn’t really dead. Locke asks him how he felt when Shannon had died, and Boone says he felt relieved. Locke seems happy with Boone’s answer and feels that they can now continue with their Hatch opening quest.

Things we learn:

• Boone and Shannon aren’t real brother and sister, they are step-brother and step-sister.

Questions?

• How did Locke make that stuff to make Boone hallucinate?
• Why was Locke so adamant that Boone not tell Shannon about The Hatch?
