Note: this is a look back at earlier episodes to give a general review and to write about the mysteries as they unfold.

Character Episode: Sawyer

Quick Recap On Flashback:
We see a young James Ford in his bedroom when his mother comes in in a panic and tells him to hide under the bed. Her husband is shouting for her to come out of the room and when she does we hear them arguing. James looks scared as he hears them, and then he hears a gun shot. His father comes into his room and sits on his bed, not realising his son is underneath it. He then proceeds to shoot himself, dieing instantly. (Although this was a dream sequence, I thought it deserved to be mentioned as a flash back).

Outlaws

We now see a much older James Ford going into a hotel room with a young lady. They’re kissing, and it’s dark, but out of nowhere someone turns a light on and a guy is sat in the corner of the room. Sawyer knows who it is and tells the lady to wait at the bar for him.

When she’s gone he appears angry with this guy, who’s called Hibbs, and asks him what he’s doing there. Hibbs tells him he has information on the real Sawyer (the guy who conned his parents) and he knows where he is and what his real name is: his real name is Frank.

Outlaws

Sawyer lands in Australia, where the “real Sawyer” supposodly lives, and goes to see a man about a gun.

Sawyer goes to a Shrimp van to speak to the guy that works there: the guy that he believes is the real Sawyer. Frank is friendly and seems happy to speak with another American. While Frank is making some Shrimp for Sawyer, Sawyer looks like he is contemplating getting the gun and pulling the trigger, but changes his mind and walks away.

Outlaws

He goes to a bar where he gets to talking to… Christian Shepherd. They share a bottle of whiskey and their sorrows. Christian tells Sawyer of his bad relationship with his son, and although Sawyer is a bit more vague about his reasons for being in Australia, Christian convinces him that if he’s here to do something, then he has to do it.

Outlaws

That night Sawyer goes back to the shrimp place and finds Frank. Frank has his back turned to him and when Sawyer says “Sawyer” to him, he turns around and gets shot. Sawyer begins reading the letter to him, but Frank doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Frank explains he was going to pay Hibbs, and it dawns on Sawyer that Hibbs set him up to kill a man who owes him money. Sawyer seems distraught.

Outlaws

Quick Recap On Island:
Sawyer wakes up from having a bad dream to find a boar sniffing through his tent. It runs off and Sawyer chases it into the jungle before losing it. When Sawyer is in the jungle he hears whispers.

Outlaws

The next day Sawyer explains to Sayid what happened with the boar only to see that Sayid finds it amusing. Sawyer then asks Sayid about the whispers he heard on his way back from Roussaeu’s. Sayid says that the whispers where just the wind playing tricks on him.

Later, Sawyer is out in the jungle when the boar comes running at him. He ends up getting hit by the boar and landing in a big pile of mud.

Outlaws

When he gets back to the beach he tells Kate that this boar has it in for him, to which Kate finds highly amusing. Sawyer declares that he’s going to hunt the boar and kill it.

When Sawyer has been hunting for a while Kate comes out and tells Sawyer he’s been following the tracks of everything but boar. She tells him she’ll help him hunt the boar in exchange for carte blanche - whenever she needs anything from him she can get it. Sawyer has no choice but to agree.

Outlaws

Later that night Sawyer and Kate set up camp and they play a game called “I never”. The game involves alcohol and the revealing of a little bit about each others histories. During the game, they learn that they have both killed a man.

Outlaws

The next day, they find their stuff ransacked and boar prints all over the place. When they realise that it’s just Sawyers stuff it messed with Sawyer really starts to believe that the boar has it in for him.

Locke comes through the jungle to say hello to the happy campers, and tells them a story about his foster mother: how she once thought that the spirit of his foster sister was in the body of a golden retreiver. This story was told to point out to Sawyer that, perhaps, the spirit of somebody is in the boar that has it in for him.

Outlaws

Later, Sawyer and Kate come accross a baby boar and Sawyer thinks that the mother boar must be around there somewhere so grabs the baby boar and violently shouts for its mother. Kate isn’t bemused by this display and walks off.

Sawyer then comes accross the mother boar, the boar that seems to have it in for him, and Sawyer pulls the gun on it. He looks at it for a few minutes contemplating whether or not to do it, but then he changes his mind. Kate looks on as he does this.

Outlaws

Later, when Sawyer gives the gun back to Jack, Jack says something about the Red Sox that makes Sawyer remember his conversation with Christian at the bar in Australia. When he finds out that Jacks father was a doctor too, he realises that Christian is his father.
