Do No Harm - Lost Season 1 Episode 20 Review
Written by admin on December 4, 2008Note: this is a look back at earlier episodes to give a general review and to write about the mysteries as they unfold.
Character Episode: Jack
Quick Recap On Flashback:
Jack is with one of his friends getting ready for a wedding rehearsal dinner. When Jack asks his friend if he’s nervous we’re led to believe that it is his friend who’s getting married, but after their conversation we learn that it is Jack who is getting married.

At the rehearsal dinner Jacks future bride, Sarah, makes a speech about how Jack had saved her from being paralysed after she was in a car accident, and that thanks to him, she will dance at their wedding.

Later that evening Jack is in the hotel reception playing the piano. Sarah, dressed in her pyjamas, joins him and they play a little song together. When a car pulls up outside he looks to see who it is, and Sarah tells him not to worry, he’ll be there. Jack was waiting for his father to arrive.

Later, Jack is sitting outside around the hotel pool when he is joined by his father. Jack is pleased to see him. Jack is writing his own vows for the wedding but tells his father he is having trouble writing them and wonders if he only asked Sarah to marry him because he saved her life. Christian reassures him that he’s doing the right thing, and that his only problem is letting go.

At the wedding the next day, Sarah has finished reading her vows and now it is Jacks turn. He tells Sarah he didn’t write any, and at first Sarah seemed upset, but when Jack tells her that “I didn’t save you. You saved me“, she seemed happy.

Quick Recap On Island:
At the caves, Jack starts to work on an injured Boone with the help of Sun. He tells Kate to go to the beach to get all the alcohol from Sawyer. Jack makes a promise to Boone that he will fix him.

At the beach, a worn out Kate finds Sawyer to get the alcohol. Kate explains what happened and Sawyer offers to help, but Kate politely says no as there are enough people helping already, but thanks Sawyer for the offer.
When Kate is on the way back to the caves she runs into Claire who seems to have gone into labour. Kate decides to stay with her and shouts for help.

Jin hears Kate and runs in their direction. When Jin reaches them Kate gives the bag of alcohol to him and tells him to take it to Jack.
At the caves Jack asks Charlie to find out everyones blood type as he is going to have to give Boone a blood transfusion. When Charlie has asked everyone he tells Jack what they are, but not everyone knows their blood type and so there weren’t alot of people to choose from. Jack decides he’d be the one to help Boone.

When Jin reaches the cave he is shocked to see Jack pouring his own blood into Boone, but then explains about Claire. Sun is there to translate everything and when Charlie realises Claire has gone into labour he asks Jin to take him to her. Jack tells Charlie to tell Kate that she is going to have to deliver the baby.
A little while later Jack is trying to speak to Boone and Boone manages to mumble something about The Hatch, and that he fell in a plane. Jack begins to realise that Locke had lied to him about what had happened.

When Jin and Charlie get back to Claire and Kate, Charlie tells Kate that she’s going to have to deliver the baby. Kate seems adamant that they get to Jack, but when Charlie explains the situation with Boone, she realises that Jack isn’t going to be able to help.
At the caves, Sun stops Jack from giving Boone anymore blood because she thinks he’s done enough. Jack reailses she’s right, but thinks getting rid of his injured leg will help in fixing him. He speaks with Michael about it and they use a door from a nearby cargo container on a log to see if it’d work - it cuts the log clean in two.

Michael helps Jack carry Boone to the cargo container and put him in position. Just as Jack is about to cut his leg off Boone regains consciousness and tells Jack to let him go, and that he’s letting him off the hook with the promise that he made. Jack is upset but respects Boones decision, and shortly after, Boone dies.
In the jungle, Claire is in a lot of pain, but Kate helps her and delivers a healthy baby boy.

It’s come to morning now and Claire is showing off her new baby to everyone at the beach. Jack is there and then sees Sayid with Shannon walking back from a romantic night together. Jack walks up to them and tells Shannon the news of Boone’s death. She is devastated.
Later, at the beach, Jack is getting ready to go for a walk and Kate sees him. She tries to talk to him about Boone, but Jack declares that Boone was murdered and that he’s going to find the man responsible: John Locke.

Things we learn:
- Jack was once married to a woman called Sarah who he “fixed” when she could’ve been paralysed.
Things worth noting:
- We later find out that Shannons father was in the same car accident as Sarah, and that Jack had to decide who he’d try and save first. He chose Sarah, and as a result, Shannons father died.
- Claire calls her baby Aaron, and in Season 4 it is revealed that Kate is now bringing Aaron up as her own off the island.

I would also note that Jack’s best man (Mark Something?) was the small boy that was getting beaten up during the episode White Rabbit, where Jack intervened and got a smack in the face for his troubles!
By the way, just thought I would mention that I love the quality and choice of your image captures here.

By “here” in the above comment, I meant “on this website”. Not just in this particular post!

Do you know I didn’t even know that Jacks best man was the same person, so thank you for letting me know.
It goes to show that even the avid Lost fan can learn something new :)
Not that I’m saying I know everything about Lost ;)
