Quick Recap On Flashback:
Walt and Michael are in their hotel room in Australia the morning of Flight 815. Michael is asleep but Walt is watching TV and it wakes Michael. Michael asks Walt to turn it down but instead he turns it up. Michael is furious with Walt and Walt storms out of their hotel room. Michael chases him and reasurres a passer by that he is Walts dad, but Walt isn’t happy with this and shouts “You’re not my dad!”.

At the bar at the airport Jack is joined by Ana Lucia, a fellow passenger of Flight 815. She heard Jack shout at the woman behind the check in counter about his dead father, and they have a friendly chat and have a drink together. Ana Lucia gets a phone call and as she goes to speak privately she tells Jack they’ll have the next drink on the plane.

Sawyer is at the police station after being brought in after a bar fight. The detective calls Sawyer by his real name and reveals he knows all about his cons and deceptions and wants Sawyer out of the country asap. He will be leaving on Flight 815.

Kate is with the marshall in the security office and the security officer is checking he marshalls case. He asks him why he needs to take 5 guns on board. The marshall asks Kate if she will explain the reason but she doesn’t respond. The security officer then sees the toy plane and asks about that. The marshall begins to explain how Kate came about the toy plane then winds her up by asking her the name of the man it belonged to, the man she killed. She gets angry and attacks the marshall but the marshall pushes her to the floor and tells the security officer that that is why he needs 5 guns.

Shannon is in the waiting area at the airport waiting for Boone. Sayid goes up to her and asks her to watch a bag for five minutes to which Shannon agrees. When Boone gets back from attempting to upgrade their seats to first class Shannon isn’t too impressed and walks off in an attempt to upgrade them herself. A security officer is walking past and Shannon tells him an “arab guy” left a bag in the waiting area and then walked off leaving it unattended.

Sun and Jin are having a coffee at the airport when Sun spills the coffee on Jin. Jin gets annoyed and they have a heated discussion. One onlooker starts mocking them on the notion that they can’t understand English. Sun overhears what she says but can’t acknowledge it. Jin heads for the mens room to clean up where he is met by a man who speaks Korean. He warns Jin that he knows of their plan to stay in America and tells him that he must give the watch to Mr. Paiks associate in LA and if he does anything else, he will lose Sun.

Charlie is in his hotel room with a girl he spent the night with. He is looking for his stash of heroin so he can leave for his flight. In the process he ends up having a fight with the girl as he tells her he doesn’t have any left. In the end she storms out leaving Charlie alone with his heroin.

Walt and Michael are now at the airport and Michael leaves Walt playing his video game while he makes a phone call. He calls his mother in New York and while he’s on the phone to her Locke goes past him in his wheelchair. Michael didn’t see him though. Michael talks with his mother about Walt and says he doesn’t know what to do with him, and asks her if she can take care of him. When the call has ended Michael turns around to find Walt standing right behind him.

Hurley wakes up late to find that his alarm clock isn’t working and makes a mad dash for the airport. He tries to get the elevator but it was full so while an annoyed Charlie has a go at him for stopping the elevator, Hurley decides to take the stairs. On the way to the airport his car breaks down, with the numbers showing on the dashboard. He runs the rest of the way and after enduring other problems in the airport he finally arrives at gate 23 where the flight is taking off from but the gate is closed. He asks the check in lady to call the plane to see if he can get on, and luckily (or unluckily) there is time for him to get on the plane.

Locke is in the departure lounge but is told they can’t find the special wheelchair they use to get passengers on the plane and without it he won’t be able to get on. One of the airport staff says they can carry him on if Locke doesn’t mind. Locke agrees even though he seems humiliated by the thought.

There is a sequence of events shown of the passengers of Flight 815 interacting with each other on the plane. Locke gives Jack a smile. Dr. Arzt helps Claire with her bags. Sawyer is seen walking up the aisle with his usual bad-boy look on his face. Shannon is looking for her inhalers in her bag and is relieved when Boone hands her one from his bag. Hurley is seen very happy to be getting on the plane and gives a thumbs up to Walt which makes Walt smile.

Quick Recap On Island:
It’s morning on the island and Michael and Walt are asleep. Walt wakes up and goes to take a call of nature when he notices Rouseauu walking towards camp. Walt hasn’t seen her before so he runs to Michael to warn him. It seems to stir the attention of everyone else but Sayid tells everyone that she is Rouseauu, the french woman he met a few weeks earlier.

Everyone seems suspicious of her as she warns everyone that “the others” are coming. She explains that there is black smoke on the other side of the island, and that the last time she saw black smoke the others came to steal her baby. She warns the camp that they have only 3 options: Run, Hide, or Die.
The camp head for the raft which is ready to set sail. Everyone gives a hand in getting the raft in the water but as they do so part of it breaks. Michael blames Sawyer for pushing it later than everyone else, but Sawyer is adamant it wasn’t his fault. Just then, Walt grabs the attention of everyone as he points to some black smoke coming from the other side of the island.

Locke, Jack and Sayid take Hurley and Rouseauu to the hatch where they think it’ll be a good place to hide only they have no way of opening it. Locke asks Rouseauu for dynamite, but she explains that they’d have to go to the Black Rock to get some. She agrees to take them to where it is.
Later at the beach Jack explains to everyone what is happening. Dr Arzt has a word with Jack alone and explains that he knows a bit about dynamite and would like to accompany them to the Black Rock.
In the jungle, Sawyer is cutting some wood to fix the raft when Jack interupts him. Jack gives Sawyer a gun to use on the raft incase they come accross any trouble and then says goodbye to him. Before Jack could leave, Sawyer tells him about his meeting with Christian back in Australia, and tells him his father was proud of him. Jack is upset but thanks Sawyer for telling him.

At the beach, the people who are going on the Black Rock mission are saying their goodbyes to the people who will be sailing on the raft, and are wished good luck by everyone who is staying behind. Kate looks around for Sawyer so she can say goodbye to him but he is busy in the jungle.
Jack, Kate, Locke, Hurley, Dr Arzt and Rouseauu head off to the Black Rock. When they stop for a break Locke notices some scratches on Roseauu’s arm and when he asks her about them she said they were caused by a bush.

When they arrive at the “Dark Territory” Dr Arzt changes his mind after hearing that one of Rouseauu’s science team lost an arm there. He heads back in the direction they came.
At the beach Sawyer arrives with his piece of wood to fix the raft and Michael is pleased to have him back on board.
Back at the Dark Territory it is raining and Jack and co. can hear a strange noise coming from the trees. They try to see what it is, and then they see Dr Arzt running their way telling them to run. He is being chased by the smoke monster. Everyone runs away except for Locke who makes Hurley stand with him.

After it’s gone Kate asks Rouseauu what it is and she explains it is a security system designed to protect the island.
At the beach Walt lets Shannon have Vincent and tells her he’s a good listener if she ever needs to talk about Boone. Shannon seems touched by this gesture.
In the jungle, Jack and co. arrive at the Black Rock which turns out to be an old ship that has found itself in the middle of the jungle. Hurley comments on how such a thing could happen, which Rouseauu replies “Are you on the same island as I am?”.

At the beach, Sun speaks with Jin and she gives him a book which she has written for him to help him learn English. Jin is upset and apologises to Sun for everything that has happened and they kiss and make up.
The raft is now ready for sail and Michael, Walt, Jin and Sawyer head off on their journey after saying their goodbyes to everyone who is staying behind.

At the Black Rock Rouseauu leaves explaining that she has brought them to the Black Rock and that they don’t need her anymore. Locke, Jack and Kate head inside the Black Rock for the dynamite while Hurley and Dr Arzt wait outside.
Jack and Locke find a case of dynamite and take it outside so they can see what they’re doing. Dr Arzt notices they’re carrying it without caution and decides to give them a lesson on how to handle dynamite. He is holding a stick of dynamite and has wrapped it up to keep it cool, and just as he tells them that dynamite is very tempermental, it blows up killing him in an instant.

At the beach, because Sayid will be taking everyone to the caves for safety, Shannon is struggling to carry two suitcases and keeping Vincent on his lead. Sayid notices this and sees that it is Boones clothes she is carrying. She explains that she needs these things and Sayid offers to carry them for her.
At the Black Rock, Locke and Jack are sorting out the dynamite. Hurley and Kate are in shock about Dr Arzt.
Rouseauu arrives back at the beach and calls for Sayid. She runs up to Claire and Charlie telling them that she needs Sayid. Charlie runs to get him leaving Rouseauu alone with Claire and her baby. Rouseauu asks Claire if she can hold the baby but Claire is suspicious of her and doesn’t allow it. She notices Rouseauu’s scratches and she seems to think that she did them. When Charlie catches up with Sayid he hears Claire shouting for help. Rouseauu has run off with her baby.

At the Black Rock they decide to take two lots of 3 in two bags, just incase one of them blows up. Kate says she wants to carry a bag but Jack won’t allow it. They agree to draw straws and Jack ends up with the shortest, so Locke and Kate will be carrying the dynamite.
At the beach Sayid and Charlie go off in pursuit of Rouseauu. Claire catches up with them before they leave and tells them to bring Aaron back. Charlie promises he will.
On the raft, the rudder breaks off so Sawyer dives in to retreive it. Sawyer does this successfully and when Michael goes to give Saywer his shirt back he notices the gun. He doesn’t seem too happy about him having a gun onboard the raft.

At the Black Rock the bags have been carefully placed on the backs of Kate and Locke and they head off back to the hatch.
Sayid and Charlie stop for a break near the beach craft that Boone fell from. Sayid tells Charlie about the heroin that was being smuggled in the Holy Mary statues and Charlie looks at them anxiously.
In the jungle, the smoke monster makes its way to Jack and co. and they run as fast as they can. Locke decides to stay where he is and is dragged on the floor by the monster and it tries to pull him into the ground. Jack manages to grab hold of Lockes arms to stop him from being pulled and he asks Kate to grab him some dynamite. When Kate goes to get it from her bag Jack tells her that it is in his bag. Kate goes to grab the dynamite but Locke tells Jack to let him go, thinking that he will be fine. Jack refuses and when Kate arrives with the dynamte she throws it into the hole and Locke is freed.

On their pursuit of Rouseauu, Sayid and Charlie come accross a trap which Charlie falls for. He ends up injuring his head badly and Sayid has to use gunpowder on it to stop it bleeding.
Jack and co. arrive back at the hatch and Jack is questioning Locke about why he thought the smoke monster wouldn’t hurt him. Locke tells Jack that everyone on the island was brought their for a reason and that it is their destiny.
Sayid and Charlie manage to catch up with Rouseauu and get Aaron back. She is upset and tells them that she heard the others say they were coming for the boy, and that she thought she could trade the boy for her daughter.

Hurley went to hide the dynamite somewhere and on his way back drops the torch near the hatch. When he picks it up he notices the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 42 and shouts at Locke not to light the fuse, telling them that they can’t, that the numbers are bad. Locke lights the fuse anyway but Hurley tries to put it out with his foot. Jack has to pull Hurley away before the dynamite blew up.

On the raft, they’ve picked up a boat in the distance on their radar and after a debate they decide to light their last flare to get its attention. To their surprise a little boat turns up and they are happy that they could finally be rescued. Their happiness is shortlived though when they announce that they’re going to have to take the boy. Sawyer tries to get a shot at them but he gets shot at and falls in the water. Jin dives in in an attempt to save Sawyer. An explosive is thrown on the raft as the others manage to kidnap Walt. Michael is left in the water shouting for his boy.

Sayid and Charlie arrive back at the caves with Aaron. Claire is delighted to see them. When Charlie is sat down with Claire we see a Holy Mary statue poking out of his bag.
Back at the hatch, the door has been blown off and Jack and Locke peer down and see a broken ladder and complete darkness, with no idea of what’s down there.

Hey! You cheaped out on the ‘extra stuff’ after the recaps. That’s the best part of these recaps - the things we learned and stuff!

Hi AC - Yeah I know, I kinda got a bit of a headache after writing all that and just wanted to get it posted :) I do intend on writing the extra bits though, so hopefully they’ll be done in the next few days :)

aw, so you didn’t write about any of season 2 or 3? that’s too bad, I just kindof got into Lost and I’d been reading your posts along with whenever I would watch an episode. Thanks for doing season 1, though!

Hi Paige! I was going to do seasons 2 & 3 during the break between 4 & 5 but in the end I just never seemed to have the time - I barely just got to the end of season 1 lol
I am hoping to do seasons 2 & 3 once season 5 is over, although you probably would have watched them by then :)
I’ve done reviews for season 4 though, and obviously writing them for season 5 as I watch it :)
Thanks for commenting, and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the posts! :)

Why, in the airport bar scene, is Jack stirring a glass with ice that sits on the bottom of the glass? Doesn’t ice float?

So is the smoke monster working with “the others” I mean, do “the others” control the smoke monster?
