The Little Prince

JULIET: Did you know that this would happen?

FARADAY: I thought… I thought it might. I think it’s neurological. Our brains have an internal clock, a sense of time. The flashes… throw the clock off. It’s like really bad jet lag.

JULIET: Really bad jet lag doesn’t make you hemorrhage, Daniel. You wanna tell me why it isn’t happening to the rest of us?

FARADAY: I don’t know. But thank God it’s not.

I think Daniel spoke too soon - just as we were beginning to think that it was happening to Charlotte because she was born on the island, Miles starts suffering with the nose bleeds. Ok, so that could still mean that it’s a side effect of being born on the island, afterall it has been speculated everywhere that Miles is the son of Pierre Chang. Just as were getting used to that idea, Juliet starts with the nose bleeds!

If what is happening to them is a side effect of being born on the island, does that mean that Juliet was born there? It isn’t that much of a stretch is it? We already have Charlotte and Miles as possible contenders of being born there, so why not Juliet? We don’t really know much about her history so anything is possible. Until the rest of the survivors start with the nose bleeds I’m going to go all out there and suggest that she was infact, born on the island.

Locke and the Orchid

The Little Prince

LOCKE: We have to go back to the Orchid. That’s where all this started. Maybe it’s where it’ll all stop.

SAWYER: And let me guess. You know exactly what to do when we get there.

LOCKE: No, not exactly at all, but I know that Ben used it to leave the Island. And if I can do the same thing, I believe I can save us.

SAWYER: And how you gonna do that?

LOCKE: This is all happening because they left. I think it’ll stop if I can bring them back.

Persuming the O6 is the islands constant and that when they return the island will return to its “normal” state and everything will be hunky-dory, what makes the O6 so special to do this?

Sawyer, Locke, Rose and Bernard arrived on the island at the same time as the O6. Juliet has been there even longer. So if the island really does need a constant why could it not have been Sawyer, Locke etc.? Is it because they’re trapped in the time jumps so therefore they can’t qualify as the islands constant?

Is this even a case of the island needing a constant? What if it’s the survivors on the island that need a constant? Now that I think about it, it seems more likely that their nose bleeds are a standard case of “lack-of-constant-syndrome” and that infact it isn’t because they were born on the island. Bring back the O6, the survivors have their constant… but will this stop the island time jumping?

Living in the same moment

The Little Prince

SAWYER: I saw Kate.

JULIET: What?

SAWYER: Last night, in the jungle. Before the last flash. She was delivering Claire’s baby.

JULIET: But that was two months ago.

SAWYER: Time travel’s a bitch.

We saw the Hatch light up the night Locke was pounding on it, and we saw Kate delivering Claire’s baby. Given the fact that time travel’s a bitch, it’s likely they’ll appear at some point during September - December 2004 again, so will they interact with some of the survivors? Will they play a part in some of the strange things we’ve seen already? Are they the Whispers? Will they try and change the future?

Who was shooting at the survivors?

The Little Prince

Ok, so Locke and co. discover a canoe-type-thing on the beach and decide to use it to get around the island to get to The Orchid Station. On the way there they get shot at by another group of people also in a canoe-type-thing.

Now, who is that group of people shooting at our survivors? As far as I know there was only one canoe-type-thing at the beach (of course, there could be more scattered around the island).

Let’s just say there was only ever one canoe-type-thing. The people shooting at our survivors could be the people who arrived on the island in the canoe-type-thing, meaning that this was happening before our survivors found it at the beach.

Or, if it was in the future, it could actually be the survivors shooting at themselves. Of course, if it is in the future that doesn’t neccessarily have to mean that it is themselves, but let’s just say it is for the moment.

The Little Prince

How would this event be possible? Locke and co. use the canoe-type-thing to get to the other side of the island but on their way they get shot at. They later use the same canoe-type-thing at a different point in time and find themselves in the same location as they were the first time round, only now there’s another canoe-type-thing infront of them. Instead of realising that it’s themselves in front of them, they start shooting at them. Why would they do that? They must feel some sort of Deja Vu, some sort of knowledge that it’s themselves they’re shooting at.

Taking that into account, even though it would be highly entertaining if it was themselves shooting at themselves, I’m inclined to believe it was someone else. Who that someone else is though, is another kettle of fish.

Jin’s Alive!

To be honest, I thought that Jin had perished in the freighter blast but I’m quite pleased to be proved wrong!

ROUSSEAU: What is your name?

JIN: Kwon Jin-su. Jin.

ROUSSEAU: Hello, Jin. I’m Danielle. Danielle Rousseau.

The Little Prince

Poor Jin, he’s had a rough few months hasn’t he? First he crash lands on an island full of English speaking people whom he cannot understand, then he finds out that his wife can actually speak English which he did not know, they have a major fall out, then they kiss and make up before he leaves on a raft, the raft gets blown up by The Others, he is unconcious and drifts back to the island to be found by The Tailies who tie him up, after that he is reunited with his wife and later finds out she is pregnant, but then he finds out she had an affair and worries the baby isn’t his, his wife assures him that it is, he then takes his wife out to The Freighter to be rescued only to find it’s been rigged with a whole load of C4, he risks his life to get the situation in control and when he’s ready to leave with his wife, he sees her fly away in a helicopter, and then BOOM, the C4 blows up, he then drifts back to the island to be discovered by a group of French people, one of whom tells him she is Danielle Rousseau, the French chick he met only a few months ago, only younger and pregnant…

Considering Jin has no idea what has been going on since Ben turned the Frozen Donkey Wheel, it’s pretty fair to say that he is undoubtedly confused by the whole situation. Not to mention that he now needs to add French to his language skills.

Will Jin find the other survivors before the next time jump? Or will Roussaeu and co. vanish before his eyes before he has a chance to find out what is going on?

Danielle Roussaeu and Co.

The Little Prince

Did we ever see old Roussaeu and Jin interact with each other? If they did, did she recognise him? Or has her crazyness clouded her memories? Will she interact with any other survivors?

What is the sickness that Roussaeus team die of? Is it the same thing as what Charlotte and co. is suffering with? It seems unlikely to me because Charlotte and co. are suffering these effects because of their time travelling, but Rousseaus team aren’t time travelling. Is it because they arrived on the island through a different bearing? Perhaps it wasn’t 1988 when they arrived and they somehow travelled into the past or future when they crashed on the island? I hope this isn’t the case though as it is confusing as it is!

Who does Sun really want dead?

The Little Prince

Sun receives a package that contains photos of Ben and Jack together (Jack has a beard so I’m guessing it’s at the funeral parlour). Also in this package is a gun. In Because You Left we’re led to believe that Sun wants Ben dead, and the photographs are evidence to support that. But what if it is actually Jack she wants dead? Jack was responsible for getting Kate on the helicopter when she was going to get Jin, so Sun does have good reason to blame him for Jin’s “death”.

Hello! I like your review. You have to take note though the moments where the survivors hear whispers around the place. Is it because of the survivors themselves travelling back and forth in time? In season 1 and 2 those whispers are very evident and loud. It could be that the were hearing themselves from a different time line.

Ok I know I postulated about why Danielle couldn’t recall Ben as being the man who took her baby when she catches him in one of her net traps 16 years later. and Probably why she doesn’t recall meeting Jin 16 years prior to Jin initially coming to the island in 2004 elswhere. That it was because smokymessed her memoryies up… But maybe given the fact that I also wondered about the Theresa in the bed that desmond goes to see on Faradays urging perhaps being because of falling up and down the stairs (of time). PerhapsDanielle doesn’t recall Jin or ben is because her mind like theresas doesn’t know where in time it is suppose to be ( no constant.. but I think that I am grasping here her Constant would be Alex) S o Ben and Jin are forgotten and not remembered. or maybbe its a combimation of falling up and down the stairs and smoky messing up her other perceptions.. Rousseau is described numerous times as completely mad/insane by various Losties. Perhaps Smoky is the stairs..or the illusion of stairs.. God a person could go mad trying to make sense of it all lol

  3. Darrel Says:

Even more about the whispers.. You speculated that the whispers could be voices from the future/past, thats a pretty good conjecture and its not completely implausible… Except all during the first 3 seasons there were no white time flashes, low frequency humming accompanying the flashes. Ok there was the one incident where it almost happened. right at the end of season two when the sky turned purple because John didn’t enter the numbers. It seems that Entering the Numbers every 108 minutes keeps the island stationary in time and space.. Perhaps thats why its so hard to find.. So does this mean that When Desmond used the fail safe key and it all went away? that the Island is imperceptibly subtley moving through time and space?

But they were hearing the whispers while they were entering the numbers. So it your postulate doesn’t quite hold. I still think that the whispers have more association with the presence of smoky in his various physical forms then actual voices in time.

You didn’t comment on the off-island incidents regarding Kate and Aaron . . . or the fact that Kate was behind the lie regarding Aaron’s parentage. Why?
