In this episode we finally get to see what happened to Sawyer and co. between Locke turning the Donkey Wheel and the return of the Oceanic Six.

Charlotte?

LaFleur

FARADAY: [Muttering] I’m not gonna tell her. Don’t even tell her. I won’t.

FARADAY: [Mutters indistinctly] No. I won’t do it. I won’t tell her. I won’t do it. Won’t…

JULIET: Daniel? You okay?

FARADAY: I’m not gonna do it. I’m not gonna tell her.

JULIET: Daniel, where’s Charlotte?

FARADAY: She’s not here. She… She’s gone.

JULIET: Where?

FARADAY: She’s… dead. She’s dead. There was another flash, and… and she was… she was just gone.

So, their last jump through time caused Charlottes body to dissapear. Does this mean that if you die in a certain time you don’t time jump like your alive companions? Or, did something change? Did Daniel decide not to tell young Charlotte that she’d die if she returned, therefore changing her fate? If this were true, however, Daniel and co. wouldn’t remember her.

I’ve got a theory that Charlotte could still be alive. She didn’t arrive in the 70s with Daniel and co. so wherever they were before that, perhaps someone stumbled upon her body and revived her? For all Daniel knows she is dead, but what if she isn’t? What if she is somewhere in the past, or the future? Only time will tell! (Sorry… ;) ).

Changing the past?

LaFleur

When walking back to the beach Sawyer and co. stumble upon a conflict with members of Dharma and the Hostiles. Sawyer intervenes and rescues Amy.

MILES: Dan. We don’t get involved, right? That’s what you said.

FARADAY: Doesn’t matter what we do. Whatever happened, happened.

If whatever happened, happened then back in 1974 Sawyer had always intervened and rescued Amy. It was his destiny. After this encounter Sawyer and co. became members of the Dharma Initiative and waited there for 3 years until the return of the Oceanic Six. This had always happened.

I think this is the main reason why it was so important for the return of the Oceanic Six. A war is coming between Dharma and The Hostiles and the Oceanic Six were a part of that war. They always were. If they didn’t return it would change the past. That’s why Ms. Hawking said “God help us all” if they O6 didn’t return when they needed to. Catastrophic events would happen if they weren’t a part of this war that had already happened.

Amy’s Baby

LaFleur

3 years after Sawyer rescued Amy, she gave birth to a baby boy (Horace is the father). Speculation about who that baby boy could be has emerged throughout the Lost-o-phere, bringing up ideas that it could be Jack, Desmond, Sawyer etc. etc. I’m not on board with those ideas, but I do think it could be someone we’ve met before.

Amy’s baby was born in 1977. In 2004 that would make the boy 27 years old. This to me rules out Jack, Desmond and Sawyer. The only person who I can think of who was around 27 years old was Charlie. But that doesn’t make any sense to me.

LaFleur

Given the time travelling abilities of the island there’s no reason to say that the boy could’ve travelled back in time and grew up in a different era. This would mean his age is irrelevant. But I’m against that idea because isn’t Lost confusing enough as it is?

I think we’ll all be surprised when it’s revealed who the baby is, but I can’t think of anyone who it definately could be.

Speaking of Babies

LaFleur

Juliet was brought to the island in 2001 to try and cure their pregnancy issues. Women on the island would always die during pregnancy and it was up to Juliet to try and fix the problem. Back in 1977, Amy successfully had a baby. Not only that, it was Juliet who delivered the baby.

Any signifance with it being Juliet? I think so.

Let’s take a look at “The Other Woman”:

HARPER: So, Juliet, what do you think of Ben?

JULIET: He’s great. Uh, very smart… and intense. Challenging. He’s been really good to me.

HARPER: Of course he has. You look just like her.

Who does Juliet look like? I think Juliet looks like Juliet. A young Ben in the 70s had an infatuation with an older woman, who just happened to be called Juliet. 20 or so years later he recruits a woman called Juliet who just happens to look like the Juliet he had been infatuated with back in the 70s. Not too much of a stretch is it?

The fact that Juliet in the 70s succesfully delivered a baby could also have influenced Ben in his decision making. Perhaps, even, Ben knew that this was the same Juliet?

But what about the pregnancy issues?

We know that in 1977 and probably prior to that, pregnancy issues hadn’t arisen. So when did the pregnancy issues start and why did they start? Did they happen when the O6 returned? Could they have done something to damage the space-time-continuum, therefore resulting in unsuccessful pregnancies?

The Purge

LaFleur

On December 19th 1992, Ben and The Hostiles killed off Dharma during what was called The Purge. As it is 1977 where we are now this isn’t going to happen for another 15 years, but if Sawyer and co. are still there at that time do they die in The Purge? We haven’t seen an older version of Sawyer and co. with Ben and The Others, so I’m assuming they have been long gone.

Did they manage to get back to their real time before The Purge happened? As it is 15 years away I’m thinking it’s something we’re not going to see through the eyes of our Losties - unless of course, time travel intervenes.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
