Character Episode: Michael
Quick Recap on Flashback:
Michael is at a lawyers office to discuss his custody battle of Walt. His lawyer tells Michael that there isn’t much chance of him winning but Michael proceeds anyway.
At the hearing Michael is asked all sorts of questions about Walt which he was unable to answer as he hasn’t been a part of his life since Susan took him away. Susans lawyer then points out that Michael doesn’t have a job and that his hospital bills were paid for by Susan. This didn’t seem to go down too well.

Later, Susan speaks with Michael privately and tells him she thinks he’s going to win. She asks Michael why he’s pursuing the case and he tells her it’s because Walt is his son. After telling Michael that he hasn’t been his father for a while and that she’ll be able to give him stability, Michael gives in.
A few days later Susan meets Michael and takes Walt with her so that he can say goodbye. Michael gives Walt a cuddly Polar Bear and tells him that he’ll always love him.

Quick Recap on Island:
In the water, Sawyer and Michael find part of the raft to rest on. Michael is desparately shouting for Walt who has just been taken by “The Others”, and Jin is nowhere to be seen.

Sawyer tells Michael to save his energy instead of shouting for Walt, but Michael is adamant that if Walt can hear him shouting he knows he’s going to come for him and get him back.
At The Hatch, Locke goes down after Kate and when he finds her Desmond points a gun at him and asks “are you him?”.

Out in the water, Sawyer shouts for Jin who is still missing. Michael is annoyed at Sawyer and blames him for what happened. They argue before Michael tells Sawyer to get off his raft. A shark then appears in the water and knocks the raft they’re sitting on. Sawyer gets his gun out and Michael makes a snide comment about him managing to hold onto his “best friend”.
Michael sees Sawyers bullet wound in his shoulder and blames him for the shark hanging around. Sawyer decides to swim to another part of the raft seeing as Michael is being ungrateful for him trying to save his son.

Back at The Hatch, Desmond asks Locke again, “are you him?”. Locke goes along with it and says yes. When Desmond asks him “What did one snowman say to the other?” Locke doesn’t know the answer which makes Desmond realise that Locke lied, and that he isn’t “him”. Locke and Kate explain that they were in a plane crash and that they have been on the island for 44 days. Desmond doesn’t believe them and gives Kate some rope to tie Locke up.
Locke pursuades Desmond that Kate should be the one who gets tied up, and as Locke is tieing her up he sneakly gives her a knife so she can set herself free. Desmond makes Locke put her into a dark storage room.

At the caves, Claire discovers the Virgin Mary statue that Charlie picked up at the Nigerian plane. Charlie lies to Claire about what it really is: a statue full of heroin.
Out in the water Michael and Sawyer are still bickering. Sawyer figures out that a small boat like what The Others had would’ve had to have set sail from somewhere close: the island. He tells Michael that Rousseau was right, The Others were coming for the boy. They came for Walt. Michael doesn’t want to hear it and splashes at Sawyers part of the raft causing it to fall apart. Sawyer swims back to Michaels part of the raft.

At The Hatch Locke is talking to Desmond about the plane crash and how many survivors there are. Desmond asks if anyone has got sick or died from a sickness. Locke tells him nobody has. Meanwhile, Kate has managed to cut herself free and finds herself in a storage room full of food. She grabs herself a couple of Apollo chocolate bars before climbing up into the vent.
The beeping noise is heard and Desmond tells Locke to type in the numbers 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 into the computer then press Execute. Locke is anxious about what is going to happen but Desmond keeps on at him to do it. When Locke has done it the timer resets back to 108 minutes.

Then, throughout The Hatch, they can hear somebody shouting for Kate and Locke. When Desmond asks who that is, Locke tells him “that would be Jack”.
Locke is surprised that Jack came down The Hatch, and as Desmond spies on him with his telescope-type-device, he notices Jack has a gun on him. Desmond puts on the record player and waits for Jack to make his arrival.
When Jack arrives he sees Locke and asks him where Kate is. Desmond then makes his appearance while holding a gun to Locke, telling Jack to put his gun down.

Out in the water Sawyer notices a pontoon from the raft out in the water and decides to paddle towards it. Michael tells him not to as it will put pressure on the part they’re on now, and he was right. As it breaks apart Sawyer falls into the water. Sawyer gives Michael his gun and tells him if he sees the shark to shoot at it while he’s going for the pontoon. Michael sees the shark and shoots at it a couple of times before blood is seen coming off it.
When it’s daylight Sawyer wakes to find Michael crying. Michael is blaming himself for what happened to Walt. Sawyer notices that they’re not far from the island and they make their way to shore. When they get there they can hear Jin shouting. He comes running out of the jungle with his hands tied shouting at Michael and Sawyer. It’s incoherent at first but Jin finally gets his message accross: “Others!”. Michael and Sawyer look in the direction Jin came from and see a group of people with weapons.

Things to note
The shark that “attacks” Michael and Sawyer has a Dharma logo on it.

Michael gives young Walt a Polar Bear cuddly toy. When on the island Walt is attacked by a Polar Bear, shortly after he reads a comic book featuring an angry Polar Bear.
