Lighthouse

HURLEY: What. What is that?
JACK: It’s my house. It’s the house I grew up in.
HURLEY: Oh. That’s weird.
JACK: Haven’t lived in that house since I was a kid. He’s been watching. The whole time. All of us. He’s been watching us.

It’s interesting that the images seen in the mirror before Jack sees his house are places Jacob met with other passengers from Flight 815. We see a glimpse of the church where Jacob meets Sawyer at his parents funeral, and we see a glimpse of the Korean building where Jacob met Jin and Sun when they were married.

In Jack’s instance, however, he is shown his house. This isn’t the place where Jacob met Jack, so if we’re to go with the idea that the mirror represents the place where Jacob met them, then perhaps 23 Shephard isn’t for Jack. Perhaps it’s for his father, Christian.

Of course, the mirror could also represent significant times in people’s lives: Sawyer at his parents funeral; Jin and Suns wedding. Perhaps the house represents a significant part of Jacks life that defines the person he is today. So maybe, the 23 Shephard is for Jack.

Lighthouse

Whoever it is, Jacob knew how Jack would react to seeing this image and knew the mirror at the Lighthouse would bear the brunt. This begs the question, who does the Lighthouse belong to? Jacob or Flocke? The obvious answer would be that it belongs to Jacob: the numbers and the names are the same as what Flocke showed to Sawyer in the cave, two of the places in the mirror are where Jacob met with our Losties etc. The only flaw in this is why would Jacob want the mirror to be smashed? Was it because he didn’t want Flocke to see the images in the mirror? Perhaps Flocke isn’t aware of everyone who is a “candidate” and this mirror would allow him to find out who is.

Of course, the mirror and the caves could belong to Flocke and he’s pulling a “Long Con” over our and Sawyers eyes… Perhaps ;)

Is someone really coming to the island?

Lighthouse

JACOB: I’m here because I need you.
HURLEY: For what?
JACOB: You should probably get a pen, you’re going to have to write a few things down.
HURLEY: What kind of things?
JACOB: Someone’s coming to the island. I need you to help them find it.

You have to wonder if anyone is actually coming to the island or whether Jacob made it up as a ruse to get Hurley and Jack out of the Temple. Given that Jacob knew that Jack would smash the mirror, it would seem that it was just a lie, but given what we know about who is currently “Off Island”, and who the Island “Isn’t finished with yet”, I’ll have to take a guess that perhaps Desmond is on his way.

Lighthouse

How, or why, or when is another mystery, but we all know Desmond is special, and with his presence on the Alt Flight 815 and his seemingly dissapearing act, I’d say he may be more intuned with the Island now. Perhaps the Desmond that is on his way is from the Alt Universe. Maybe.

Another “candidate” would be Walt. He was perceived as someone who had special powers as well. Unfortunately, because the events from Seasons 1 - 4 happened over a 3 month period, it was difficult for Walt to remain a part of the story line as he was growing up far more faster than his character. That’s not to say it would impossible for him to return now. 3 years have passed so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to bring him back.

Crazy Claire

Lighthouse

JIN: Claire, how do you know they took him? How can you be so sure?
CLAIRE: How can I be so sure? Well, first my father told me, and then my friend told me, so I’m pretty damn sure.
JIN: Your friend? Who’s your friend?

We’ve been told Claire has been “claimed” and that a darkness has grown inside of her. However, she still seems to have her memories in tact, she recognises Jin, and is on the warpath because she thinks The Others took Aaron.

Looking back at Season 4 Episode “Cabin Fever” would suggest that Claire and Christian left Aaron behind because he wasn’t supposed to be on the island.

CLAIRE: Hi, John.
LOCKE: What’re you doing here?
CLAIRE: Don’t worry. I’m fine. I’m with him.
LOCKE: Wh–where’s the baby?
CHRISTIAN: The baby’s where he’s supposed to be, and that’s not here.

Lighthouse

They left Aaron at the foot of a tree by himself, so was that purely because they couldn’t take him into the Cabin, and that’s what Christian meant when he said “The baby’s where he’s supposed to be, and that’s not here”. Were they expecting to go back to that tree and find him still there and play happy families? I doubt that.

Both of them must’ve known Aaron would have been found by someone. Perhaps they thought it was The Others, and not Kate? I guess they could’ve assumed that if anyone would take Aaron it would be The Others due to their past Kidnapping exploits.

But if you throw Flocke into the mix… you know, Claire’s friend

LOCKE: Am I interrupting?
JIN: John?
CLAIRE: That’s not John. This is my friend.

… Then he must know that Kate took Aaron off the Island. He seems to have Locke’s memories and we know Locke visited Kate when he was on his “Bring Back the O6″ mission. So why has Flocke also told Claire that The Others have him?

Well, the obvious answer is because he wants The Others dead and needs as many people on his side as possible. He’s manipulating her and doing a great job of it.

CLAIRE: Thank you Jin, thank you. And I’m so glad to know you were lying because…if what you said was the truth, if Kate was raising Aaron…I’d kill her.

I have a feeling it will be handbags at dawn when these two finally reunite.

The Alt Timeline

Lighthouse

Well, Jack has a teenage son called David. We don’t know who his mother is, but we do know he is an expert pianist was afraid of his dad thinking he was a failure. I guess that gene is passed down to father and son. We also find out that Jack had his appendix out when he was 7 or 8 years old. This is significant because in the Original Timeline Juliet took out Jacks appendix on the Island.

There are 2 major changes in Jacks life: having his appendix out when he was a boy, and that he has a son himself.

Lighthouse

I was wondering whether Jack having his appendix out happened before the bomb blew up in 1977. This would suggest that the bomb wasn’t responsible for the alternate timeline. But then I got to thinking that perhaps Jacks Appendix burst on the day the bomb went off. In 1977, there is time traveller Jack on the island and a younger version of himself off the island. Perhaps when the bomb went off part of his older self merged with his younger self when the Alt Timeline was created, therefore because time traveller Jack had already had his Appendix out, it caused a problem for his younger, alternate self, which is why he had his Appendix out when he was 7 or 8 in the Alt Timeline.

Of course, with this change comes loads of other changes in his life, a Butterfly Effect if you will (if you haven’t seen the film the Butterfly Effect I highly recommend it), and that could be what caused him to have a son.

Lighthouse

I’m not sure who the mother could be. I speculated in my first review from Season 6, that Jack had saved Shannon’s fathers life rather than Sarahs so if I still go along with this then Sarah would be dead and they would’ve met a good few years after David was born. But, perhaps if a lot of things are different in this Alternate Timeline, then perhaps the car crash with Shannon’s father and Sarah didn’t even happen. Perhaps Jack met Sarah a good few years before that would’ve happened, and maybe she is Davids mum.

In the original timeline Jack married Sarah but it ended up in divorce. Some things may remain the same in this alternate timeline, perhaps Jack did marry Sarah but despite having a son together, it still ended up in divorce.

Is David Special? Was he supposed to be? Is David coming to the island?

    Hi there,

I love your site TheoriesOnLost.com … I have been using it for the past two seasons but never created an account. I wanted to thank the people who have presented theories that I loved to watch but I can’t seem to figure out how to create an account. Is it still possible to? If so, can you send me the info on how to do it? I know I’m asking a lot.

Many thanks for everything you have done with Lost.

I feel like I need a support group after feeling like I’ve been scammed by the writers for 6 years. :(
